This is the Monday Message for the week of November 6th. Each week (when there is school on Monday) you will receive a message from us with updates on upcoming events and news from GRMS.

A Message from Ms. Nugent, our Athletic Director:

Basketball try outs start on November 15th.  In order to try out, parents/guardians must complete all the following:

Current Sports Physical: Physicals are good for 14 months from the last date the student was seen by a physician. Paper copies of a blank sports physical can be picked up at school.

Completed sports physicals can be uploaded to Form Releaf website (see below) or a paper copy can be brought into school and turned into the school nurse.

Registering on FormReLeaf: Parents must register their student-athlete for athletics using the website https://app.formreleaf.com/login  Directions for doing so are below. New users: On the top menu bar select “Find Organization”  and then search for Golden Ring Middle School. Click on the Program (“23-2024 Winter Athletic Registration”)   After clicking on the appropriate Sport, complete all required information and upload the physical. Sign (using your mouse/finger/stylus) in those fields where appropriate.  When finished click “Submit”   Per Baltimore County Public Schools policy, all forms must be submitted for students to try out and participate in athletics. Student athletes who have incomplete registration will not be allowed to try out for the team.

Grade Requirements: BCPS policy states that student-athletes MUST have a 2.0 GPA with no more than one failing grade on their 1st quarter quarter report card (posted on 11/14/23)

Tryout Dates and Times: Tryouts will take place on the following dates. It is required that student-athletes attend all days of tryouts.  November 15, 16, 17 and 20th if needed.

The Chat & Chew and Meet the Coaches Required Parent Meeting will be held on Tuesday November 21st directly after practices.  A parent representative is required for each student athlete so please make sure to arrange a parent or guardian to attend. Please mark this date on your calendars now!

Devices:

Please make sure that your child comes to school every day with a fully charged device and a charger. If a student doesn't have these items, they may not be able to do work that could impact their grade or they might have to do work at home that otherwise could have been done in school.

MAP Testing:

Students who participated in the Fall 2023 MAP testing received copies of their scores this morning in homeroom.  These reports reflect the students’ scores in reading and mathematics as well as the growth target, the district, and national averages, student’s percentile rank, and the Lexile range for reading. The fall scores serve as a baseline for the school year. The winter score will reflect the students actual growth from fall to winter. These home reports are two sided and include information regarding the MAP assessment with an explanation of scores that you may find helpful.

Grade 6 Team:

Mark your calendars for our 6th grade Monthly Incentive on Tuesday, November 21st (Mod 11). Students will be able to participate in a variety of activities from a movie to games, karaoke, crafts, and bingo. To be eligible, students may not have any major referrals, or lunch detentions in the month of November. Each student will receive a pass based on their selected activity and these will be given out during homeroom on the day of the event (Nov 21st) . Students who are not able to participate in the incentive will be assigned a classroom location and given a pass.

Chick Fil-A is this Thursday. The cost for a sandwich is $6. Tickets will be sold in the morning during bus arrival and will be delivered at the end of the day. The proceeds from this fundraiser help support out school wide initiatives and events.

That is all for now! Thank you and have a wonderful week.
