EYLP/Math Academy

Extended Year Learning Program

Who: Baltimore County Public School students recommended for reading and mathematics skills and knowledge development. Seats are limited. Enrollment is on a first come basis.

What: Students participate in research-based reading and mathematics programs designed to meet the specific instructional needs of each student. Each day will include two hours of reading and two hours of mathematics in which students rotate among different stations. 1. Online programs using pre-assessments to prescribe targeted individualized learning experiences. 2. Project-based activities engaging students in deeper learning experiences. 3. Teacher-led individualized instruction providing feedback as students progress through each concept.

Where: Golden Ring Middle School 6700 Kenwood Avenue Baltimore, MD 21237 410-887-0130 When: July 9, 2018 – August 3, 2018 7:45 a.m. – 11:45 a.m.

How: Parent/Guardian must verify, sign, and return the attached EYLP Enrollment Form to your child’s school counselor no later than May 31, 2018. There is no fee for Baltimore County Public School students.

Transportation: Parent/Guardian must indicate the need for transportation on the EYLP Enrollment form. A list of summer shuttle stops is provided below. Exact pickup and drop-off times will be published on the school’s website and the Summer Programs Hotline 443-809-9855 on June 22, 2018.

Attendance: In order to meet MSDE regulations for blended learning, students must attend class unless prevented by illness, death in the family, or court-related matters.

· Students having more than four absences will be withdrawn.

· Three days late for thirty minutes to 1½ hours will constitute one absence.

· Students who miss more than 1 ½ hours in a school day will be marked absent for the whole day.

· Parent/Guardian will be contacted by phone when students are marked absent.

· Once a student successfully completes a blended learning course with a passing grade, attendance is no longer required.

 

Special Education: Students who currently receive special education services may register for an appropriate Extended Year Learning Program. Only classroom accommodations and testing modifications will be provided.



Math Academy

At Golden Ring Middle School

 

Who: Baltimore County Public School students recommended to take Algebra 1 in Grade 8 during the school year and are in need of additional time and support to develop or maintain algebra readiness skills. Seats are limited. Enrollment is on a first come basis.

What: Students participate in a research-based blended learning mathematics program designed to meet the specific needs of individual students. Each day will include four hours of mathematics instruction in which students participate in whole-class, small group, and individual learning opportunities designed to develop students’ mindset, confidence, and beliefs about doing mathematics as they strengthen their understanding of key concepts and skills from prior grades to build their readiness for algebra.
