Background

     The program of education in a Baltimore County Middle School is one of general education. There are certain subjects that are required. These subjects are designed to give the student an experience in many fields and also to aid the teachers in discovering and uncovering student talents in various fields. Because of this aspect of the middle school as a field of discovery, we want to give students an opportunity to take as many different kinds of courses as possible. At the same time, we want to give those students who show some signs of academic talent an opportunity to begin their academic programs earlier in their school life, and, thus, make it possible for them to take additional courses at the end of their school years. With this thought in mind, there is an opportunity for a student to start a foreign language and/or algebra while in middle school.

Grading System

     The grading system at Golden Ring is the standard system used in many Baltimore County Schools, and it is based on five letter symbols: A, B, C, D, E. These symbols are defined as follows:

A=achievement superior in quality & quantity
B=achievement above average
C=average achievement
D=achievement below average
E=failure to meet minimum grade standards

Interim Reports

     The Interim Report is designed to provide information to parents or guardians and students about scholastic progress between marking periods. It may reflect either positive or negative progress. In addition, other explicit means such as conferences or written communications may be used to inform parents or guardians of a student’s progress.
